Latin Pop Sensation Signs Exclusive Endorsement Agreement With Rivet De Cru Jeans
Puerto Rican recording artist Kortez has signed an exclusive endorsement deal with Rivet De Cru Jeans, a leading clothing company specializing in the design of upscale denims which are distributed through the world, and endorsed by Latin sensation Wisin & Yandel. The deal is timely, coinciding with the release of Kortez debut single Pa Que Sude, under Platinum Music Group.
The Rivet De Cru Jeans brand based out of Los Angeles founded in late 2007 was launched by long-time denim artisan Ruben Dario Campos, an industry leader in quality and innovative jean manufacturing with over 20 years of experience. Rivet De Cru Jeans has been able to sell to an international market and some of the leading boutiques in the United States. Combining a love for Americana West and Premium European Fashions is what makes Rivet De Cru Jeans look and feel unique.
Kortez is one of the best up-and-coming artists, with one of the most unique voice I’ve ever heard. We are very excited to have him on board to represent Rivet De Cru Jeans,” said Ruben Dario Campos, Founder and CEO, Rivet De Cru Jeans. “Rivet De Cru’s brand, like Kortez music, speaks to a diverse audience. Kortez current, fresh presence will complement our brand, and on a personal level, his commendable charitable efforts are in line with our corporate values. We look forward to a successful partnership.”

Omega Packs a Lot Into Merengue Shows
Dominican blogs and sites have been buzzing since Omega's people announced this month he had been granted a visa to perform in the U.S. for the first time in four years. He had trouble obtaining one due to what his handlers described only as a DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) matter.
Omega is a trailblazer in a fast-and-aggressive variant of merengue derisively called "merengue de calle" (street merengue), but he prefers to call it "merengue urbano," or simply "msica urbana" (urban music). His band's name, Mambo Violento, has become a synonym for the type of music he plays.
The singer, tagged as "El Fuerte" ("the Strongman"), aligns his work more with hip hop, current R&B and pop.
"I find the name 'merengue de la calle' offensive, because a kid 'de la calle' [from the street] has no home," he says. "Calling it urban music means it follows the tendencies of youth music, like hip hop."
Omega, 30, became a top-grossing act in the Dominican Republic because his music combined merengue and many young Dominicans' love of hard-edged hip hop. His gravelly, drawling voice may remind listeners of reggaetn's Tego Caldern or of hip hop's DMX.
His lyrics sometimes deal with the violent street life increasingly common in the Dominican Republic, but are more often love songs ("Si No Amas" or "Shorty") or the typical rapper's boast of his flow ("Chamboneando").
Visually, at least, he cultivates a street-tough image. He showed up for an interview at the Hudson Hotel in midtown sheathed in a bright yellow jacket that covered most of the tattoos on his arms (but not the one between his eyes) and flashing bling, a golden watch with a 3-inch face, rhinestone earrings in both ears and chunky rings on both hands.
Adding to his bad-boy image is the three-month jail term he served in the notorious Najayo prison in the Dominican Republic after a high-profile trial, where he was found guilty of beating his ex-wife. But even there, he worked on his music and released a video of a new song performed a cappella in his cell.
Tribute to Tito Puente to Fund Latino Youth Programs
Latin Quarter in NY to Host Launch of Effort Featuring Hottest Latino Artists and Personalities Celebrating Mambo King’s Legacy
The Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) and Platinum Music Group announced today they are hosting a special event at the Latin Quarter nightclub on December 16, 2009 in New York City in honor of the legendary Tito Puente, who was known as "El Rey de los Timbales" and who was instrumental in promoting Latin Jazz and Caribbean music for more than 50 years. The event will also serve to launch a DVD of Puente’s last performance in 2000, the year in which he died. The DVD will be available as of today for sale in stores across North America and Puerto Rico. Proceeds from the DVD sales will benefit HHF’s youth programs. The event will feature performances from top Latin stars paying tribute to Tito Puente and raise funds for youth programs, which include educational scholarships. HHF has honored Puente with its prestigious Hispanic Heritage Award for the Performing Arts in 1994.
Performers include: Tito Puente Jr. and Friends, Alex y Fido. Other celebrities such as Marc Anthony, Luis Enrique, Grupo Mania, Jose Alberto "El Canario", have also been invited to participate.
“I’m thrilled my father’s fans will be able to watch him perform again on the DVD,” said Tito Puente Jr. “And I’m even more excited younger fans will be able to witness his performances. And it will start where my dad was born, lived and died – in New York City. I’m grateful to the stars who will be part of the tribute and more importantly, that the evening will benefit the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, which honored my dad with the Hispanic Heritage Awards and works year-round to move Latino youth forward through leadership, community service and education.”
